FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EASTON, Pa. June 10, 2019 – Crayola announced today it has added a new item to its roster of colorful products: highlighters. This addition might be surprising to some, but not to Crayola.

“We believe the Crayola Screamin’ Neons will not only help children express themselves artistically but also help them study,” says Mark J. O’Brien, Director for Media Communications for Crayola. “They will be able to highlight important passages in books – assuming, of course, that they are allowed to write in their books.”

And kids today might be allowed. Research conducted by Crayola found children start using highlighters around 8 years old and continue using them throughout their time in school for a variety of activities including school papers, study sheets and reports. This research led to Crayola tailoring Screamin’ Neons to fit the needs of today’s school children.

Screamin’ Neons feature a special rounded nib that allows a smooth flow of ink without noise or squeaking. The non-toxic ink is washable and can be cleaned from skin and most clothing. They will come in a four-pack of colors: Glowing Green, Neon Yellow, Hot Magenta and Electric Blue.

Founded in 1885 by C. Harold and Edwin Binney, Crayola produces a variety of colorful products including markers, watercolors, tempera paints, chalk, clay, fabric paints, and of course crayons. Every year, Crayola produces more than 2 billion crayons.
