THRIFTING: Tie Dye! (The Prep)
I’m obsessed with tie dye clothes. Shirts, dresses, pants, socks, underwear — whatever. And I love to do it myself.
I’ve found that, however, tie dye can be a fickle friend and sometimes it can go wrong. And when you spend $$$ on brand new shirts or pants to tie dye and it doesn’t look good when you’re finished, it can be really disappointing. Which is why I only tie dye clothes I find at the thrift store. (Well, not underpants…)
I’ve been buying white shirts and pants to tie dye for a long time but never have I ever found unused tie dye KITS at the thrift store. Until now!
Both of those kits were like $3 each, which is a huge discount. (The kit in the back is usually priced anywhere from $15 to $20 retail.) Both kits are in great shape, except…
That’s the soda ash from the bigger kit and it’s hard as a rock. It’s supposed to be loose and powdery and it’s not.
I’m going to try it anyway. You soak it in water, even when it’s new and powdery, so I’m going to soak it in water and see if it will dissolve.
The white fabric next to the kits are two pairs of pants and two long sleeved shirts because I don’t care that it’s winter — I AM GOING TO WEAR TIE DYE.
Stay tuned and see how it turns out!
I will leave you with this outtake picture, that my cat Charlie photobombed because it was tired of me taking pictures on the floor.
