THRIFTING: Summer in January

I have a bit of a dilemma:

I love vintage glassware, but I’m also a Marie Kondo hoe.

(I don’t have enough room to keep it all and I’m trying desperately to avoid clutter.)

I have to pass up a lot of very cute vintage glasses and pitchers when I’m out thrifting, but sometimes, occasionally, I make an exception when I find something that truly Sparks Joy™️.

Like this delightful little green glass pitcher.

So cute!

My guess is that it’s from the 1980s. I can’t tell what the brand is or get any background information on it, but I’m still looking. (I’m a data nerd.)

Inspired by this adorable little carafe, I decided to inaugurate it with some homemade lemonade.

Why lemonade in the winter? Because I used to live in Los Angeles and you could get fresh lemons, off people’s trees (with their permission, obvs) all year around and having lemonade in winter was not a big deal. And because you can get (passable) lemons in the winter on the East Coast, I’m gonna go for it.

Here’s the recipe I followed:

Best Lemonade Ever

by Jo, taken from AllRecipes.com

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ¾ cups white sugar

  • 8 cups water

  • 1 ½ cups lemon juice

DIRECTIONS

In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Allow to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until chilled.

Remove seeds from lemon juice, but leave pulp. In pitcher, stir together chilled syrup, lemon juice and remaining 7 cups water.

Drink a glass and wish it was 40-50 degree warmer outside.
