THRIFTING: Meet Eddie

I love fake plants.

I mean, I love live plants more, but I tend to accidentally kill them. I currently have a live aloe plant still living at my parents’ house because it’s thriving there and I’m afraid once it crosses the threshold of my home, it will immediately die.

So, if I want any greenery in my house, it has to be fake. (For now.)

I found this vase and greenery set at Goodwill and immediately scooped it up and brought it home.

I have a 9’ faux bamboo plant in my living room, so when I saw the fronds on this guy, I knew he would fit right in.

That is, despite the hefty price tag.

This is more than I generally like to spend at Goodwill, unless I’m buying something I really want. And I really wanted this.

But I debated, y’all. Because look how much it cost brand new, which I knew, thanks to the o.g. price tag on the bottom of the vase:

The thing is, both the vase and the greenery are in great shape. The vase is really heavy and solid feeling, which I’m choosing to equate with quality. The greenery is fabric, not plastic (probably polyester; not fancy, but still — fabric, not plastic) and very poofy and full.

And for anyone who collects faux plants, you know how expensive high quality fake botanicals are. They’re EXPENSIVE. So, after a very short debate in my head, I knew this was a good deal for me.

Once I do some DIY on the vase, I am very excited to find a place for it in my living room. I’m going to paint the vase because I’m not super into the dark green/blackish brown color combo happening. That combo always makes me think of tarnished metal and that’s not my style.

My plan is to do two colors — a base color all over and then a coordinating color for these lovely deep grooves.

So, please stay tuned for that transformation coming soon!

In the meantime, what should I name this guy?? (I’m leaning towards “Eddie”?)
